DLO about Climate change

Kia ora Bloggers, I apologise for not being active and posting much but this week I've learnt how to find a pattern of a number even if its 2 different digits. I also learned lots about climate change, how people need to pay more close attention to it, the causes and effects and the worst situations that can happen.

Here is my DLO about climate change, please sit back and enjoy !

Changing Improper Fractions to Mixed fractions !

Kia ora Blogger, I hope you all are safe and covid-free.
Today, I wasn't able to join the online call due to difficulties but I managed to complete every online school tasks. One of the tasks I learnt today is how to change improper fractions to Mixed fractions !
Let me quickly teach you how to do it, I found my own way that helped me by knowing my times table instead of using paper and drawing the amount of circles, squares and more.
To be honest, I have a better understanding than I had last time.
so lets start with the first question: 7/3
3x2 = 6 ( It is the closes to 7)  now as you can see there is 1 left in 6 to make 7. Now its 2 1/3.
I apologise if my explanation is not good but they're are many ways to work out mixed fractions :)

Thank you for viewing my blog !

Chop Suey - Technology

Today my group & I made chop suey but a healthier version, to be honest I think the healthier version tasted much better! I really liked the food and enjoyed making it with my partner. Cooking teaches me different techniques, skills & teaches me to try new food and to alter my ingredients. It also teaches me the importance of cooking, cooking is not only fun but we must be careful for hazards and many more. We have one more week of cooking then we rotate, cooking has been very fun and has given me many amazing opportunities.

Thank you for viewing my blog !                                                                                                                              Don't forget to leave a thoughtful comment !

New Zealand Olympics

Tokyo Olympics 2020 has been very interesting and very successful.
Because of COVID-19, the organisers were very cautious . They used with cardbox beds, isolated rooms and separate eating areas. They use cardboard boxes as beds so they can re-use it for good purposes.
It's pretty amazing on how they postponed Tokyo 2020 Olympics to 2021 as this is the first time they postponed Olympics it also comes to my shock that Laura Hubbards was the first to be able to compete transgender in the Olympics. Due to covid and many reasons to keep the Olympics successful they couldn't have spectators as it only allowed participants, referees and coaches.

Cooking - Technology

 Kia Ora Bloggers,

Today my class and I went to tech as usual, went to our groups and completed the tasks that needed to be completed. We made vegetable curry with lentils, green beans, spinach, chicken breast, carrot, onion,  garlic and curry paste.

Instructions :

Dice your onions, thinly cut the carrots, cut the stalk off the spinach and cut thinly after that thinly cut the chicken breast into bite sizes.

Prepare your pan to 1/2 degree, add 1 1/2 oil then add your onions into the pan.

Once the onions are nice and brown, add your chicken breast onto the pan as well as the garlic then let it fry.

After its fried or close, count in the lentils, green beans, spinach and carrots stir for 10-12 minutes then allow it to set.

Next, add in the curry paste and mix once you've mixed it let it settle for 15-20 minutes check on your food just in case it gets over cooked then take it off the pan onto a plate and enjoy :) !

Matariki Art

My class and I had to create a matariki art to present to our school about. Matariki is 'New Year' in Maori and is indeed very important to the Maori culture. Matariki has 9 stars, Waipuna-a-rangi, Ururangi, Matariki, Tupu-a-rangi, Tupu-a-nuku, Waiti, Waita, Pohutukawa and Hiwa-ite-rangi. As a 'newbeeie' to Matariki, I'm very interested in knowing the 9 stars and their meaning.

Our teacher made 4 activities we had to choose from, the whare made with ice block sticks with stars surrounding it, the star which you draw and write meaningful words around it, Acronym about matariki and art painting silhouette. As you know I chose art because of its wonderful sunset and surrounding.

Back to my art, I'm not that creative but I loved the sunset and the silhouette that I wanted to try it so bad and so I gave it a go. It was very fun and turned out better than I imagined, there were some tricky parts like making the colour blend, trying to rub off our mistakes without making a whole and spreading the white paint everywhere. To be honest it was especially hard because we used dye instead of paint, the only colour we used paint for was white because our teacher said it'll look much better and easier.

The art I created with a few of my classmates was very outstanding and better than I expected. I can't wait to present this to the rest of my classmates as well as students around the school. I hope you also like my work and decide to leave a kind and thoughtful blog comment! Thank you :)

Visit to Te Oro

 Kia ora bloggers.

Today my class & room 10 went to Te Oro to learn about matariki and Maori art. We each had 3 groups for 3 activities called Harakeke, kowhaiwhai,Tuhituhi. I was in kowhaiwhai with Matua Logan and whetu, they were very kind and thoughtful.

They also encouraged us to be creative and to leave all your negative thoughts outside and to also think outside the box. Obviously before that all happened we took our shoes off and lined up as we enter Te Oro. Once we entered Te Oro we were surprised with an amazing introduction by the teachers and their whanau. After all that Matua Logan asked us simple questions about Matariki and questions such as 'what's the god of the oceans name?' (Tangaroa) as we answered the questions correctly Matua Logan gave those who answered the questions a lollie which was surprising because no one expected anything.

As we move on with our groups, some year 8s from last year already went through this but luckily we went into a group we haven't done last year and so I went into kowhaiwhai. It was very fun and interesting as we had a white plain paper, folded into 4 squares already served to us. In those four boxes, in box 1 we had to draw a koru, in box 2 we drew a hammerhead shark also known as Mangopare, In box 3 we had to connect the Mangopare on box 2 with box 3 but drawing it on opposite sides & last but not least we drew waharua kopito. (If you are new to these Maori patterns feel free to use google) After all that Matua Logan and Whetu gladly gave us good amount of wood that was painted white before given to us, they also put painting pallets with the colour blue, purple, gold, black and green.

Using those patterns we drew earlier, we painted with the colours that make us who we are, but of course we had to plan our work with a pencil on our piece of wood and then colour it over using paint. I would say this adventure was pretty amusing I had lots of fun with my friends as well as learning new things.

EasTTle - Strand Results

Today my class & I had to complete another test which was maths strand. As you can tell by the following images I earned a 4B, to be honest I'm not sure if I'm happy with my score or not. I feel like it's good but not good, because of this it encourages me to try harder, work harder and earn a 5B or 4A. This test was a little tricky but I managed to get through it.

Ngatu - Keeping the tradition alive

Malo e lelei Bloggers.
Today a good amount of students got chosen to work with one of our student teachers and I was one of them. Our student teachers name is Miss Myers, she is a lovely and caring teacher.
This session she taught us how to find the main idea in the story, how to create a ngatu, what were the importance of ngatu and the Tongan vocabulary. I learnt new vocabulary such as Tutu - the bark used to make ngatu, koka'anga - the way of making ngatu, ike - wooden tool for beating the ngatu and more.
It was an interesting session with Miss Myers. As you may or may not know, to be a complete teacher you must go through 3 years of getting experience from different schools, learning off teachers and students. Miss Myers is on her 3rd year of training, which means she is going to be a teacher in 6 months! from my experience with Miss Myers I think that her new class and students will love her.
Back to my class session reading Ngatu. I also learnt the difference creating a ngatu in Tongan and creating a ngatu in New Zealand because creating the ngatu in New Zealand they use flour and glue but in Tonga back in the Islands they used half cooked potato as a glue to stick the parts that had holes.
I had an amazing time with my group as well as Miss Myers and learned a lot of interesting things about making ngatu. I hope to have another reading session like today with Miss Myers wishing her all the best with her new class.

EasTTle - Number Results

Today my class & I had to complete our EasTTle maths numbers test. As you can see by the image I received 5B which means I went up 2 sub-levels. It was a tiring session but very worth it, I was very excited and happy once I saw my score. I am definitely happy with my score but really want to try harder and better next time. If you read my all about me blog post it says that I want to reach 5B which I gladly did, so now I want to keep it up and continue going up step by step.

Family Tree

Today my class and I had to complete a fun activity, the activity was talking and asking your parents, grandma, grandpa what culture were their parents, trying to understand our ancestors and our past generations. As you can see by my family tree above, I am half caste, half Samoan and half Tongan from both my parents side. I got this information from my parents as they told me about my past generation and  ancestors because I have never met my grandparents as they had already passed before my time of birth.
This activity is about getting us to know our past ancestors, generations and just trying to understand ourselves, where we are from and make us proud of who we are. I learned lots more about my past generations, what they were and more from my lovely parents.
Even though this task was very enjoyable it was quite a hassle creating the family tree and putting it in order but besides the hard-work I had an awesome time !

Cooking - Term 2 - Week 7

The Best Healthy Minced BBQ Beef Salad RecipesCarrot salad with minced meat - whole30 | Simone's Kitchen

This week's cooking recipe was mince with salad.

This weeks recipe was very delicious and fun, this recipe was not difficult at all in fact this was very easy and amusing. My favourite part about creating this dish is putting the mince into the pan and dicing the onion and carrots. Although the following images above is not the real picture, here is just a similar dish to what we've created today.

Recipe:

Ingredients: Mince, onion, carrots, stock cube, oil, lettuce, garlic and ginger

Dice the onions and carrots.

Set the frying pan halfway, check if its hot pour a good amount of oil.

Then put your diced onions in the pan, let it set then add in the garlic and ginger.

Once the onions are nice and light add in the mince, stir and then leave it to cook.

(You will know when the mince is ready because there will be no pink parts, it will all be brown.)

Once it's nice and cooked add in the carrots, stir and then leave it to cook.

After that, add in your salad to your bowl, plate or container, turn down your stove and add your mince into your salad.

Finally, sit back, relax and enjoy :)

DLO about Coconuts

Today, my class and I was set to complete an activity about coconuts.

Although I knew what a coconut is I didn't know much behind it like the way they use the coconut, what each part of the coconut tree is used for, how old a coconut tree is and lots more. I had an awesome time completing this tasks with my class and I also had an amazing time learning about the coconut and lots of things its used for while writing my DLO.

Please feel free to read my DLO above.

Chameleon - Word Art

Today, I've created a word art that describes me and what makes me proud of my culture.
This activity was a fun and very interesting activity as we had to write down all the things that we are proud of and things that make us who we are today.
Creating a word-art is very simple, once you click on the site you will be able to add any word you would like, your favourite sports, things, cultural subjects and more.
As you can see my picture is a chameleon, chameleon is a colour changing lizard.

New Zealand Fern Quiz

Today room 6 and I, learnt about different types of native plants.
My teacher (Mrs Petersen) had us to pick a native tree that isn't the same as the others, I chose New Zealand fern. I chose this native tree because I always see this on New Zealand sport teams like rugby, netball, volleyball and more so this seemed very interesting for me.
Here is a quiz above that gives you some information about ferns, this quiz doesn't tell you everything about ferns but a little push for you to learn about ferns.
If you are interested you can always search facts and information about New Zealand ferns.

Please give my quiz above a try :)

Technology Rotation - Cooking

This week is week 4 and we've started a new rotation today. The group I'm in until we switch or rotate is cooking with Mrs Hamer, It was a fun and calm first day of cooking, I've always wanted to do cooking with Mrs Hamer especially because we didn't have her last year. Although we didn't have her last year, this year we have her and believe me it's a good feeling going into the kitchen and start cooking.

Today we didn't make much because it was our first day so Mrs Hamer just wanted to give us a little experience of how it felt like being in the kitchen and start cooking.

For today's cooking we made a smoothie :

Ingredients: 2 tbsp yogurt, 1 cup of milk, 1 banana- peeled and sliced, 1 apple - peeled and sliced and a handful of spinach. Mrs Hamer also asked us if we wanted to add some honey/syrup into our smoothies even though it wasn't meant to be apart of our smoothie she wanted to give us a little treat to add in our smoothies, so my partner and I, Milika decided to add some syrup into our smoothie and blended it. Next thing you know it tasted amazing and the syrup went well with the smoothie.

Technology Term 2

This week back at technology has been hectic !

2 more weeks of Robotics with Mr Krishna and then we rotate, this week's subject or topic was different for us year 8s and year 7s because we normally do the same topics together but for this week Mr Krishna wanted us to have our own topic because we had already learnt and completed that task. So for our topic we had to used a site called Tinkercad, this site was a lot of fun and I also learnt some things while completing the tasks that were assigned on the site.

Our first task for this week wasn't really a task it was getting to know the site better so that we know how to use it because we usually use mblock, but then following with the first task we had to write hi,welcome or our name onto the micro-bit that activity was so cool and fun completing. Our second tasks which was the last task because we didn't have enough time to complete one of our other tasks. Our second task was called beating heart basically we had to watch a video of showing us how to make our micro-bit have its heart beating, this activity was pretty fun and cool whilst completing it with my friend.

What I learnt in Technology this term

What I learnt in robotics 2021

This term is the last day of term 1 but we have 3 weeks left of our group then we rotate.
I'm in the Robotics group and my teacher is Mr Krishna. These past few weeks my group and I have learnt about many amazing things for example, how to build the m-bot together and take them apart, how to put music and lights into the m-bot coding and last but not least how to move the m-bot using the following codes on the site. Most of the things I learnt was coding and learning how to play this game called the Binary Game was fun especially with my classmates, Binary Game as you can see is a game but helps me and my fellow classmates with their coding while starting the m-bot.
This week was quite busy and fun but luckily we made it through the week and had an awesome time in my robotics class.
3 weeks left until we rotate, I had an amazing experience although I had done robotics last year it was good having a quick rewind back on what we learnt and also helping the year 7s who don't know how to code and put the coding into the m-bot.
The students in my tech group as well as me had a well served time with Mr Krishna, always playing Kahoot or Quizzes with my classmates at the end of our class, laughing and trying to beat each other to come first place and always giggling and there for each other when they need help will be a favourite memory of my second tech class of 2021.

Google Drawn Fish - Cybersmart

Today's activity was not difficult although my hands are tired from dragging shapes to create this google drawing of mine but besides that I definietly had an awesome time completing this activity and learning the different types of shapes there is, the variety of colours and how to create a fish using google drawing shapes.

This activity was really interesting because at first I didnt know how to create a fish using google drawings until I saw a photo and was trying to look for the shapes to fit the fishes and trying to understand its pattern until finally I got a hang of it and did it to the best of my ability :)

My fun experience with Renee Salesa

(Renee Salesa & Me)
Today was an amazing opportunity meeting Renee Salesa and getting to know how she started out as a dancer, before all this started we had the visitors introduced by our lovely principle. This was a duffy assembly and having Renee over to dance and answer our questions we have for her is amazing!
She is such an amazing dancer and as you can tell by her t-shirt she is in the Royal Family  (Famous dancing group by Parris Goebel) not only that but she has been in Ariana Grande music video and has visit to many different countries especially America.
Renee Salesa is 19 years old, born in Auckland Glen Innes !, as I was growing up I never knew that Royal Family dancers stayed, lived or was born in Glen Innes Auckland!
She is so tall, her personality is so sweet and kind and last but not least she's such an amazing dancer, when Renee said "Always believe in yourself cause you don't know what could happen" I guess that was one of her sentences that really stood out for me and will definitely help me.
I had an amazing and fun experience talking and knowing Renee Salesa better and can't wait to see her again.

Chromebook Webcam

This is photo I took with my chromebook camera, shows my Pepeha in drawing that I created. Using my Webcam to take photos or record is fun especially with high quality features. I didn't learn too much about webcam but 2 things I learnt while taking a photo was how I was holding the chromebook and taking good care of it and another thing I learnt while taking a photo was knowing a shortcut which is pressing the space to take a fast and good photo.

Tidy Drive - Cybersmart Challenge

Today's cybersmart challenge wasn't difficult in fact it was very easy, this task I completed was about our drive, folders and how we name it and to make sure that there's no document, slide and more without a folder. While completing this I learnt how to move and delete unexpected folders as well as docs and keeping it neat and tidy.
It was a fun and independent activity, I definitely had a good time completing this and learning more information about how to keep your drive nice and organised, this will definitely help finding my docs and more much easier.

Bookmarks

This 4th Challenge of mine from Manaiakalani is about bookmarks.
For this activity we had to screenshot our bookmarks and write about why we chose those to be our bookmarks, as you can see by my presentation above it shows what we did and what I had to write about.
One thing I learnt about this activity was that we must be careful on what we bookmark and that we make sure that it is school appropriate which is why I will make sure that the following sites I bookmark is school appropriate. Don't forget to fix your bookmarks if they aren't school related!

Screenshot - Cybersmart

Room 6 and I, had another cybersmart activity by kawa of care - Manaiakalani.
For this tasks, we had to screenshot our class site, class blog, school site and my blog. As you can see by the following screenshots above I have labeled each screenshot. One thing I learnt while completing this activity was how I screenshot these following sites, you could've screen shot it with snipping tool, Snagit, Picpick and more but I chose to screenshot with Ctrl + Shift + Show window or F5. I chose this way because I find this way faster and efficient unlike using the following sites to screenshot which will take you for a while.
This activity was useful and fun to complete because of how I noticed the difference and much faster way to screenshot.

Know your keyboard

Today my class and I had to complete this second kawa of care cybersmart activity by Manaiakalani.
This activity was learning about your keyboard, knowing how to type without looking and knowing the shortcuts on chromebooks. So far I've learnt about the following things above and am very positive and comfortable with typing without looking as well as knowing the shortcuts on a chromebook.
Thank you Manaiakalani for teaching us these amazing chromebook skills.

Cybersmart- kawa care activities

Today room 6 and I had to complete 3 cybersmart activities from manaiakalani, this activities are suppose to teach us how to take care of our devices and always be organized when your at school. These activities were really interesting and fun to complete. Kawa care taught me how to be organized when your at school or before your at school, how to take care of your devices and how to stay cybersmart within your social media/chromebook.

A1. Kawa care chromebook #1
For this activity we had to put the words that were on the side into these sentences so we had to see which of these words fit in with these sentences that were provided. One thing I learnt while completing this activity was the rules that you must follow while using your chromebook because if you don't follow the rules, your chromebook may easily be damaged.

A2. Kawa of care chromebook #2
For this second activity we had to do the same thing like activity 1 but we had to read the sentence and see which words matched these sentences with their topic above. One thing I learnt while completing this activity was that you have to carry your chromebook with care and with responsibility.

A3. Kawa of care chromebook #3
For our last activity, it was different because all we had to do was insert a sensible picture of ourselves and read the following agreements around. While reading these I have definitely committed to doing this and will take care of my device responsibly.
