Visit to Te Oro

 Kia ora bloggers.

Today my class & room 10 went to Te Oro to learn about matariki and Maori art. We each had 3 groups for 3 activities called Harakeke, kowhaiwhai,Tuhituhi. I was in kowhaiwhai with Matua Logan and whetu, they were very kind and thoughtful.

They also encouraged us to be creative and to leave all your negative thoughts outside and to also think outside the box. Obviously before that all happened we took our shoes off and lined up as we enter Te Oro. Once we entered Te Oro we were surprised with an amazing introduction by the teachers and their whanau. After all that Matua Logan asked us simple questions about Matariki and questions such as 'what's the god of the oceans name?' (Tangaroa) as we answered the questions correctly Matua Logan gave those who answered the questions a lollie which was surprising because no one expected anything.

As we move on with our groups, some year 8s from last year already went through this but luckily we went into a group we haven't done last year and so I went into kowhaiwhai. It was very fun and interesting as we had a white plain paper, folded into 4 squares already served to us. In those four boxes, in box 1 we had to draw a koru, in box 2 we drew a hammerhead shark also known as Mangopare, In box 3 we had to connect the Mangopare on box 2 with box 3 but drawing it on opposite sides & last but not least we drew waharua kopito. (If you are new to these Maori patterns feel free to use google) After all that Matua Logan and Whetu gladly gave us good amount of wood that was painted white before given to us, they also put painting pallets with the colour blue, purple, gold, black and green.

Using those patterns we drew earlier, we painted with the colours that make us who we are, but of course we had to plan our work with a pencil on our piece of wood and then colour it over using paint. I would say this adventure was pretty amusing I had lots of fun with my friends as well as learning new things.

EasTTle - Strand Results

Today my class & I had to complete another test which was maths strand. As you can tell by the following images I earned a 4B, to be honest I'm not sure if I'm happy with my score or not. I feel like it's good but not good, because of this it encourages me to try harder, work harder and earn a 5B or 4A. This test was a little tricky but I managed to get through it.

Ngatu - Keeping the tradition alive

Malo e lelei Bloggers.
Today a good amount of students got chosen to work with one of our student teachers and I was one of them. Our student teachers name is Miss Myers, she is a lovely and caring teacher.
This session she taught us how to find the main idea in the story, how to create a ngatu, what were the importance of ngatu and the Tongan vocabulary. I learnt new vocabulary such as Tutu - the bark used to make ngatu, koka'anga - the way of making ngatu, ike - wooden tool for beating the ngatu and more.
It was an interesting session with Miss Myers. As you may or may not know, to be a complete teacher you must go through 3 years of getting experience from different schools, learning off teachers and students. Miss Myers is on her 3rd year of training, which means she is going to be a teacher in 6 months! from my experience with Miss Myers I think that her new class and students will love her.
Back to my class session reading Ngatu. I also learnt the difference creating a ngatu in Tongan and creating a ngatu in New Zealand because creating the ngatu in New Zealand they use flour and glue but in Tonga back in the Islands they used half cooked potato as a glue to stick the parts that had holes.
I had an amazing time with my group as well as Miss Myers and learned a lot of interesting things about making ngatu. I hope to have another reading session like today with Miss Myers wishing her all the best with her new class.

EasTTle - Number Results

Today my class & I had to complete our EasTTle maths numbers test. As you can see by the image I received 5B which means I went up 2 sub-levels. It was a tiring session but very worth it, I was very excited and happy once I saw my score. I am definitely happy with my score but really want to try harder and better next time. If you read my all about me blog post it says that I want to reach 5B which I gladly did, so now I want to keep it up and continue going up step by step.

Popcorn chicken & wedges !

 Malo e lelei Bloggers.

Today my class & I had technology in the morning on Tuesdays as usual, today we made popcorn chicken and wedges as you can see by my title.

This task was very creative and innovative. I had an awesome time making popcorn chicken with my partner, we both liked it very much and thinks it taste amazing. I definitely had a good time with my class & I and looking forward to seeing what we will be cooking next week.

Ingredients : 1 1/2 cup of flour, 1 egg, 1 1/2 bread crumbs, canola oil, chicken breast

Cut the chicken breast into small square pieces.

marinate the chicken breast into the milk and lemon.

Get your pan out, cover it with foil and spray a good amount of canola oil.

Dip the chicken breast into the flour then the egg into then bread crumbs after that put it onto the pan and repeat the same process.

Once you've completed that process, make sure your oven is on 180 degrees and then put your popcorn chicken inside the oven and let it set for 10 minutes.

After 10 minutes is completed take your pan out and turn the popcorn over then putting it back inside the oven for another 10 minutes. (Make sure your watching your popcorn because in some cases it can burn up).

Wedges:

Put the amount of wedges into the oven on 190 or 200 degrees then leave it to set for 20 minutes or so.

Family Tree

Today my class and I had to complete a fun activity, the activity was talking and asking your parents, grandma, grandpa what culture were their parents, trying to understand our ancestors and our past generations. As you can see by my family tree above, I am half caste, half Samoan and half Tongan from both my parents side. I got this information from my parents as they told me about my past generation and  ancestors because I have never met my grandparents as they had already passed before my time of birth.
This activity is about getting us to know our past ancestors, generations and just trying to understand ourselves, where we are from and make us proud of who we are. I learned lots more about my past generations, what they were and more from my lovely parents.
Even though this task was very enjoyable it was quite a hassle creating the family tree and putting it in order but besides the hard-work I had an awesome time !

Cooking - Term 2 - Week 7

The Best Healthy Minced BBQ Beef Salad RecipesCarrot salad with minced meat - whole30 | Simone's Kitchen

This week's cooking recipe was mince with salad.

This weeks recipe was very delicious and fun, this recipe was not difficult at all in fact this was very easy and amusing. My favourite part about creating this dish is putting the mince into the pan and dicing the onion and carrots. Although the following images above is not the real picture, here is just a similar dish to what we've created today.

Recipe:

Ingredients: Mince, onion, carrots, stock cube, oil, lettuce, garlic and ginger

Dice the onions and carrots.

Set the frying pan halfway, check if its hot pour a good amount of oil.

Then put your diced onions in the pan, let it set then add in the garlic and ginger.

Once the onions are nice and light add in the mince, stir and then leave it to cook.

(You will know when the mince is ready because there will be no pink parts, it will all be brown.)

Once it's nice and cooked add in the carrots, stir and then leave it to cook.

After that, add in your salad to your bowl, plate or container, turn down your stove and add your mince into your salad.

Finally, sit back, relax and enjoy :)

DLO about Coconuts

Today, my class and I was set to complete an activity about coconuts.

Although I knew what a coconut is I didn't know much behind it like the way they use the coconut, what each part of the coconut tree is used for, how old a coconut tree is and lots more. I had an awesome time completing this tasks with my class and I also had an amazing time learning about the coconut and lots of things its used for while writing my DLO.

Please feel free to read my DLO above.

Chameleon - Word Art

Today, I've created a word art that describes me and what makes me proud of my culture.
This activity was a fun and very interesting activity as we had to write down all the things that we are proud of and things that make us who we are today.
Creating a word-art is very simple, once you click on the site you will be able to add any word you would like, your favourite sports, things, cultural subjects and more.
As you can see my picture is a chameleon, chameleon is a colour changing lizard.

Cooking term 2 - week 2

Today GIS seniors and I had technology, for technology as you know we had recently rotated into new activities.
This week we made fritters with salad :
Ingredients: 1 egg, 1/4 cup of milk, 1/3 flour - ( whisk ) 1 zucchini - courgette - (graze and peel )
1. Add the courgette into the egg, milk and flour and whisk.
2. Put a good amount of oil into a pan, then once whisked add into the pan any shape you want and amount you want on the pan.
3. watch carefully on your food & keep checking on it just so it doesn't burn.

This dish that we made was very delicious and nice especially with the dipping sauce (sweet chilli),  I definitely enjoyed this dish Milika & I created and absolutely had fun creating this dish with her and my class members, this was a successful day and can't wait to cook and update you again next week.
